ABOUT US
Our mission is to treat all drivers with the respect that they deserve all while making sure that all cars are inspected the same and are to the rules. We also want the fans in attendance to be entertained by the derby as much as possible.
Founded in 1998, Smash It Demolition Derbies started when the Clark brothers Jeff, Russ, and Tim bought Paulus Demo Derbies. Smash It began with 8 county fair derbies and over the next few years grew to 24 derbies.
In 2003, we started what was then called The Bash. It was a 1 day derby with the main class paying out $2500 to win in Marysville, OH.
In 2009, we decided to promote The Bash as a national event and renamed it the Bash for Cash. The derby consisted of 4 classes and a total purse of $30,000 with the winner receiving $11,000 in the main class and it was a success, so we decided to make the show an annual event.
In 2012, Smash It bought Back to Back promotions which added another 25 shows to our schedule. This allowed us to take over the class named Turn Back the Clock. We decided to take the Turn Back the Clock class and add it to the Bash for Cash. After doing this, we expanded the show to 2 days.
In 2016, we decided to pay $10,000 to win in the compact division as well and that took the event to a 3 day derby. The event outgrew its initial home in Bellefontaine, Ohio and moved to Washington Courthouse, OH then outgrew that venue within three years. Bash for Cash is now held at the Ross County Fairgrounds in Chillicothe, OH and is the largest outdoor demolition derby in the United States with over 400 cars annually and with a payout of over $180,000. It is a 3 man team derby with 8 single classes. The Prostock Team class consists of 16+ teams with the winning team getting paid $51,000. The Prostock Mini Team class is also 16+ teams which are competing for the $15,000 1st place prize money.
In 2017, Smash It bought national events Blizzard Bash and Capital City Carnage in Topeka, Kansas from Ultimate Derby. Blizzard Bash is the largest indoor demolition derby in the United States and is held in November at the Stormont Vail Event Center in Topeka, KS. Blizzard Bash is a 4 man team derby with 6 single classes. The Limited Weld Team class consists of 16 teams with the winning team getting paid $60,000. The Weld Compact Team class is also a 16 team feature event at Blizzard Bash with the winning team getting paid $30,000. All in all, there are over 300 drivers with a payout of $270,000. Capital City Carnage is also held at the Stormont Vail Event Center. This derby is in March. There are 200+ drivers participating in this derby and has a total payout of over $105,000. The 4 man Street Stock Weld Team class consists of 16 teams competing for the $40,000 first place prize money.
Smash It’s summer season includes 20 county fairs in Ohio. Often throughout the fair season, Smash It will have 2 derbies going on the same day, dividing their talented staff among the shows to ensure fairness. Jeff's son Chuck and Tim's son Tim Jr will lead a show while Tim Sr puts on another.
The annual end of the year Clean Up show is the final event on our county fair season. This is where drivers finish off their cars for the year. This show takes place in October, and always has 100+ cars. It is also held at the Ross County Fairgrounds in Chillicothe, OH.
